Before sign-off, the business still needs to know whether an authorised successor can build that release, operate the connected services and make a future update. A mobile app handover should produce evidence for those questions. Repository access, platform account control and contractual rights are separate matters. The checklist below proposes three acceptance tests; it does not determine intellectual-property ownership or replace the signed agreement. ## Map the assets and the rights separately List the app, backend, design files, build configuration, store listings, domains, hosting, integrations, monitoring and documentation. For each, identify the contractual rights or licence, account owner and authorised maintainer role. If an item is excluded or remains vendor-managed, make that boundary explicit. | Asset | Rights or licence to verify | Account owner and maintainer | Acceptance evidence | Outstanding condition | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | App and backend source | Agreed rights, dependencies and third-party terms | Named repository owner and authorised team | Identified release commit and documented build | Missing files, licences or access | | Store distribution | Applicable platform terms and transfer conditions | Business account owner and permitted roles | Authorised release rehearsal or documented readiness check | Transfer eligibility or linked-service work | | Hosting and integrations | Contractual scope and service agreements | Billing and operational owners | Inventory, support route and safe functional checks | Person-bound or vendor-only dependencies | | Operations and recovery | Agreed support and data responsibilities | Named operating owner | Monitoring, recovery instructions and known-issue register | Untested recovery or unclear support boundary | Store secrets in an approved vault or equivalent controlled system. The handover record should reference the approved access route, not contain passwords, signing secrets or production keys in a broadly shared document. ## Test one: reproduce the delivered release Choose the exact release commit or tag and record the build environment, dependency versions and documented steps. Have an authorised successor perform a build in a safe environment, using the organisation's approved secret-handling process. Compare the result with the intended release and record limitations. A successful build is evidence of build readiness; it does not by itself prove functional equivalence, production safety or ownership of every component. Keep test results, unresolved defects and any necessary manual steps visible. In a fictional handover, the build depends on an undocumented file held on the original developer's laptop. Record that as an open acceptance condition and resolve it through an approved configuration process. Do not substitute a screenshot of a successful build on that laptop for successor readiness. ## Test two: rehearse the release path Confirm that the proper business owner and authorised maintainers can perform their intended roles. Use a test or preview route where available; a handover exercise is not a reason to publish an unapproved production release. An app transfer is a separate process from receiving source code. Review linked services and applicable eligibility before agreeing that a transfer is complete. Similarly, [GitHub's repository-transfer documentation](https://docs.github.com/en/repositories/creating-and-managing-repositories/transferring-a-repository) describes administrative prerequisites and what remains associated with a repository. A repository transfer does not settle the business's contractual rights to third-party assets. ## Test three: demonstrate operating readiness Ask the nominated operating owner to locate billing ownership, monitoring, service contacts, recovery instructions and the support agreement. Walk through a safe sample incident: who receives the alert, who can investigate, who may authorise a change and where is the decision recorded? Review backup and restoration evidence separately. A backup being scheduled is different from a restore having been demonstrated. Any practical restore or production change needs its own authorised plan and controlled environment. ## Sign off against evidence and open conditions Record each acceptance test as passed, failed or not performed, with evidence and an owner for unresolved work. Separate warranty fixes, routine maintenance and new development. The business should know what support remains available after the handover and which responsibilities it is taking on.
