# Nepal Entity Monthly Close: Build an Evidence Pack

![Monthly close diagram linking Balance, Reconcile and Review.](https://digitalconsultingventures.com/hubfs/04.svg)

An overseas controller receives a Nepal entity's profit-and-loss statement. The totals look plausible, but there is no bank reconciliation, no explanation of an intercompany difference and no indication of which balances have been reviewed. A statement has arrived; the evidence needed to use it has not.

A monthly-close evidence pack makes that handoff explicit. Its job is to let the local preparer and group finance team trace material balances, understand unresolved items and agree who will act. The index below is an operational proposal, not a substitute for statutory accounts, tax filings or audit.

## Agree the reporting basis before requesting files

Write down the period, cut-off time, local ledger, reporting currency, group reporting policies and materiality approach agreed with the responsible accountants. Identify which adjustments are posted locally and which exist only in a group-reporting bridge. Without that distinction, the same adjustment can be applied twice.

Confirm the locally applicable accounting framework rather than assuming local accounts are automatically identical to group IFRS accounts. The [IFRS Foundation's Nepal jurisdiction profile](https://www.ifrs.org/content/dam/ifrs/publications/jurisdictions/pdf-profiles/nepal-ifrs-profile.pdf), updated 1 June 2026, is a useful starting reference on the jurisdiction's framework; the entity's own requirements still need professional assessment.

## Give each schedule a question to answer

Use this index to ask for evidence with an owner and review status. It is a starting point: add or remove schedules according to the entity's actual transactions and reporting requirements.

| Schedule | Question answered | Evidence | Preparer and reviewer | Open issue |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Trial balance | Which ledger version supports the pack? | Period, export timestamp and account mapping | Name both | Unmapped or unexpected balances |
| Bank reconciliation | Why do ledger and bank balances differ? | Statement, reconciling items and ageing | Name both | Unexplained or stale items |
| Receivables and payables | Which balances need follow-up? | Ageing tied to control accounts | Name both | Disputes, missing documents or review needs |
| Payroll reconciliation | Do payroll outputs connect to the ledger and payments? | Controlled totals and identified differences | Name both | Unresolved payment or posting differences |
| Intercompany reconciliation | Do counterparties agree? | Matched period, currency and confirmations | Name both | Timing, fees or classification under investigation |
| Fixed assets | What changed during the month? | Opening-to-closing roll-forward and support | Name both | Unapproved or unsupported movements |
| Currency and reporting bridge | How does local reporting connect to group reporting? | Applicable policies, rates and adjustment references | Name both | Unresolved policy or translation questions |
| Compliance status and sign-off | What is complete, pending or overdue? | Applicable-obligation tracker and completion evidence | Name both | Owner, action and due date for each exception |

## Investigate differences before correcting them

In a fictional example, the parent records an intercompany balance of 100 units while the local entity records 98. First confirm that both sides are comparing the same period, currency and transaction population. Then inspect payment timing, fees, exchange effects and classification. A difference of two is a question to resolve, not an automatic journal entry.

Retain the evidence for the eventual conclusion and the approval for any correction. If the issue remains open at reporting time, describe it in the exceptions register with the owner's assessment and next action. Do not hide it in an unexplained “other” line.

The [IAS 21 overview](https://www.ifrs.org/issued-standards/list-of-standards/ias-21-the-effects-of-changes-in-foreign-exchange-rates/) distinguishes functional and presentation currency and foreign-currency accounting. That distinction helps frame questions for the accountant; it does not provide enough entity-specific information to choose a rate or post a translation adjustment.

## Make review status visible

Every schedule should identify its source, period, preparer, reviewer and version. Use clear states such as prepared, queried, reviewed and awaiting evidence. A folder upload timestamp is not proof of review.

Agree how late changes are communicated. If a schedule changes after group finance has used it, identify the superseded version and affected reports. Preserve access controls around payroll and other personal records; broad management packs should contain only the information their readers need.

For a discussion about [accounting support in Nepal](https://digitalconsultingventures.com/accounting-nepal), bring DCV a redacted pack index and the questions your overseas team cannot currently answer. That creates a concrete scope for preparation, reconciliation and review responsibilities.
