# Nepal Remote Team Continuity: Test Internet, Power and Cover

A second internet connection appears on a supplier questionnaire. That is useful information, but it does not establish whether a critical task can continue. The alternative connection might depend on the same upstream service, the laptop may have no power, or the only authorised approver may be absent.

For a Nepal remote team, a continuity discussion should connect each important workflow to a tested alternative and an accountable owner. The exercise below uses hypothetical scenarios and safe sample data. It makes no claim about Nepal outage frequency or any provider's uptime.

## Choose a workflow before listing equipment

Pick one task whose interruption would matter to your business: a customer handover, a scheduled report or a time-sensitive operational check. Ask the business owner how long it can wait and what minimum service would remain useful. Do not invent a universal recovery target.

Identify dependencies separately: internet, power, device, identity access, shared systems and people. Two connections do not automatically provide independent routes; ask what each depends on. A backup colleague is only useful if they have current instructions, appropriate authorised access and demonstrated competence.

[NIST SP 800-34 Rev. 1](https://csrc.nist.gov/pubs/sp/800/34/r1/upd1/final), published and updated in 2010, provides a reference for contingency planning, prioritisation and exercises. It is dated guidance, not Nepal law or evidence that a particular business meets a certification.

## Facilitate a short, safe exercise

A 45-minute discussion is one possible starting format, not a standard. Name a facilitator, the worker responsible for the task, the relevant IT or facilities owner, and a business reviewer. Choose a scenario from the table. The facilitator introduces the assumed failure, then asks the worker to explain the next action and the reviewer to identify what must remain controlled. A note-taker separates demonstrated evidence from assumptions. Close by assigning gaps, owners and follow-up dates; schedule a separate controlled rehearsal for alternatives that still need practical verification.

| Scenario | Question to test | Alternative to verify | Owner | Evidence and unresolved risk |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Primary connection unavailable | Can the authorised worker reach the required system? | Approved alternative connection or location | Name the responsible person | Safe connection test; note shared dependencies |
| Primary power unavailable | Which work devices and network equipment need power, and for how long? | Approved battery, UPS or alternative work location, assessed separately from internet backup | Facilities and IT owners | Charging and maintenance records, safe runtime evidence and any unpowered dependency |
| Work laptop unavailable | Can work resume without exposing data? | Approved managed device and recovery procedure | Device or IT owner | Sample workflow completed under approved controls |
| Normal approver absent | Who can make the required decision? | Expressly authorised substitute or agreed hold | Business owner | Recorded authority and contact route |
| Shared application inaccessible | What can safely continue? | Documented temporary process, if approved | System and workflow owners | Sample rehearsal and reconciliation steps |

For every row, also record the maximum tolerable interruption selected by the business owner, the minimum acceptable output and how the team will communicate status. A temporary process must preserve appropriate controls; it is not permission to move customer data into an unapproved personal tool.

For the power scenario, map the laptop, router and any other equipment the selected task requires. A charged laptop does not keep an unpowered router working. Review approved backup capacity, charging arrangements, maintenance and observed runtime under a representative safe load; a product specification alone is not proof of usable coverage. Begin with a tabletop assumption that mains power is unavailable. Do not cut power to production equipment or improvise electrical work. Any practical backup-power test needs a separately authorised plan with the responsible facilities or IT owner.

## Observe a handover instead of assuming it works

In a fictional client-project handover, the usual coordinator is unavailable. The backup receives the approved checklist and a sanitised project workspace, identifies which deliverables are ready and which need approval, and prepares a handover note. The business reviewer checks it against the sample source records and records missing context. No client delivery or production change is made during the exercise.

This can reveal practical gaps: an outdated folder link, an unexplained formula or an approval rule known only to the absent person. Close those gaps and repeat the affected part of the rehearsal. Do not simulate an outage by disrupting production systems or removing someone's real access without a separately approved test plan.

## Close the gaps and define the return to normal

Each finding needs an owner, action and review date. Distinguish “alternative identified” from “alternative tested.” If an important dependency cannot be resolved, document the residual risk for the business owner instead of marking the whole plan complete.

Also plan how temporary work returns to the normal system: reconcile queued records, identify duplicates and confirm which version is authoritative. A workaround that creates inconsistent records can extend the disruption after connectivity returns.

When discussing [DCV services](https://digitalconsultingventures.com/services), bring one critical workflow and your evidence requirements. Agree who owns continuity preparation, testing and customer communication as part of the scope, with commitments based on the actual operating arrangement.
